Circle to deprecate CCTP V1 protocol by December 2026

Circle has announced the deprecation of its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) V1, setting a final deadline for the legacy system to be paused on December 1, 2026. The transition process will begin on October 31, 2026, with a gradual reduction in burn limits for V1 contracts.

Developers are urged to migrate to CCTP V2 to maintain native USDC cross-chain functionality. CCTP V2, which launched in March 2025, offers several technical improvements over its predecessor, including support for both Standard and Fast Transfer modes, programmable hooks for automated post-transfer actions, and expanded support across 27 blockchains.

While many networks are integrated, certain blockchains such as Aptos, Noble, and Sui currently rely on V1 and will require additional work to complete the transition. Circle has provided a 95-day window for certain applications to migrate, though specific timelines for all integrated apps have not been fully disclosed. The protocol utilizes a burn-and-mint model to facilitate native USDC movement without the need for wrapped assets or traditional bridge liquidity pools.
