Circo Rolando Orfei rejects animal welfare accusations
The Circo Rolando Orfei has issued a formal response to recent accusations regarding animal welfare, following protests and social media campaigns in Rimini. The circus management rejects claims of mistreatment, describing the online allegations as based on images and videos that have been “extrapolated from context” or used “instrumentally” to discredit their work.
Management emphasized that they operate in full compliance with national and international regulations under the constant monitoring of veterinary services. They stated that animals are treated as “life and work companions” rather than mere attractions.
The circus also reported a surge in online hostility, noting that workers and families have been targeted with insults and threats. To address the tension, the organization has extended an invitation to animal rights associations, activists, and citizens to visit their facilities and observe the animals' living conditions firsthand. Additionally, they proposed establishing a constructive dialogue mediated by independent experts and veterinarians to discuss the future of traveling shows and animal welfare.
