CircSyst project implements industrial water reuse in Riba-roja del Turia

The European CircSyst project, funded by the European Commission through the Horizon Europe program, has launched water management technologies in Riba-roja del Turia, Spain. Coordinated by the AIDIMME technological institute in collaboration with Veolia and the Riba-roja del Turia City Council, the initiative aims to demonstrate how an industrial park can meet much of its water needs by sustainably recovering its own effluents.

The system channels treated water from the local wastewater treatment plant into a new, low-cost tertiary treatment process. To maximize water resource utilization, the system will also integrate rainwater as a complementary resource. The technology is capable of producing up to four different pre-established qualities of regenerated water, tailored to the specific requirements of industrial and urban users.

Through the Simbylay industrial symbiosis platform, companies within the industrial park can communicate their specific water needs, including required volumes and quality parameters. A network of sensors deployed across the treatment plant and consumer companies will monitor the quantity and quality of the water available and distributed.
