Formula 1 returns to Madrid with new Madring circuit
Madrid is preparing for the return of Formula 1 after a 45-year absence with the debut of the Madring semi-urban circuit. The event, scheduled for September 11-13, is expected to have a significant economic impact, estimated at 467 million euros, creating 8,850 jobs and generating approximately 83 million euros in taxes and social security contributions.
The new 5.4-kilometer track features 22 curves, including 'La Monumental,' a long banked corner that Pirelli engineers suggest may be more demanding on tires than the Zandvoort circuit. To accommodate the influx of up to 345,000 spectators, the city is organizing various fan activities, including a Williams Racing Fan Zone in Callao featuring simulators and a full-scale car model.
The event has already caused a surge in the local hospitality sector. Average hotel rates in Madrid have risen by nearly 70%, reaching 485 euros for the race weekend. Data shows a 41% increase in accommodation searches on Booking.com and a trend of travelers booking stays 130 days in advance, compared to 90 days in the previous year.
