Circularis manufactures railway sleepers from recycled plastic
Circularis, a company based in Monte Cristo, Córdoba, is producing high-resistance railway sleepers, electrical crossarms, and construction profiles using recycled plastic. The enterprise operates through a public-private partnership involving municipalities, recycling cooperatives, the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI), and the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA).
Founded in 2013 as a startup by Raúl Frola and his family, the company pivoted toward industrializing disposable materials early in the development of circular economy concepts. A significant turning point occurred in 2017 when Raúl Frola identified the potential for recycled plastic railway sleepers during an international fair in Moscow. In 2021, industrial engineer Sergio Lavagna joined as a managing partner to help consolidate the factory's operations.
The production process relies on agreements with 60 cooperatives and 60 municipalities, which receive training for the pre-classification and segregation of plastic waste at the source to ensure efficiency.
