Circumcision ceremonies in Turkey draw attention through community festivals and social media trends

Recent circumcision ceremonies in Turkey have drawn varied attention, ranging from large-scale community events to highly stylized private celebrations that have sparked social media debate.

In Gaziosmanpaşa, the local municipality organized a traditional circumcision festival at Millet Bahçesi for nearly 500 children. The event included medical teams, inflatable play areas, face painting, puppet shows, and science demonstrations. Local officials, including Deputy Mayor Eray Karadeniz and AK Party Istanbul Deputy Süleyman Soylu, attended the festivities to support the families.

In contrast, a private ceremony gained viral attention on social media due to its extravagant nature. During the event, the child's mother made a grand entrance carried on a specially prepared throne. The entrance was accompanied by a belly dancer performing with a live snake, leading to online discussions regarding the increasing level of ostentation in traditional ceremonies.
