Circus arts festivals held in Arica and Arequipa
Various circus and performing arts events are taking place in South America. In Arica, Chile, the eighth edition of Jallalla Festi Circo begins on October 8. Organized by Galpón Jiwasanaka Circo, the four-day festival features circus arts, training, and community activities in the Cerro La Cruz area. The program includes performances by companies such as Festín de la Risa and Payasa Maleza, a traditional artist caravan through the city streets, and live music by the local band Los Barrileros. A local entrepreneurship fair, ‘Hecho en Arica’, will also be held during the event.
In Arequipa, Peru, the circus troupe La Tarumba is presenting its new show, ‘Airosa’, at the Carpa La Tarumba in Vallecito. Running until October 25, the production combines circus, theater, dance, and live music to explore Peruvian traditions and 19th-century Lima. Directed by Carlos Olivera, the show draws inspiration from the artwork of Pancho Fierro, depicting historical scenes through acrobatics, juggling, and humor.
