Circus Roncalli celebrates 50th anniversary and leadership transition
Circus Roncalli is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a jubilee tour, including a premiere at the Vienna City Hall square. The anniversary marks a significant transition for the family-run enterprise as founder Bernhard Paul, 79, begins handing over more responsibility to his children, Vivian, Adrian, and Lili Paul-Roncalli.
Paul described the succession process as a “tightrope walk,” noting the challenge of granting his children freedom while ensuring the company's continued stability. He intends to remain involved in a supportive capacity, acting as a “guardian angel” for the next generation.
The circus has established a distinct identity through long-term strategic decisions, such as the early elimination of animal performances and the use of electric locomotives and eco-friendly power for transport. During the recent premiere in Vienna, Paul appeared on crutches following a swimming-related injury.
