Cirebon house fire kills father and infant

A fire broke out on July 31, 2026 at the Griya Asri housing complex in the Depok district of Cirebon, West Java. The blaze claimed the lives of a father, identified as DS, and his six‑month‑old baby, BA. Residents who heard the smoke forced open the locked front door, finding the father wounded in the kitchen and the infant lying in a bedroom.

Police investigators from Polresta Cirebon, led by Kompol I Putu Ika Prabawa, are collecting evidence and have ordered autopsies to determine whether the victims died from the fire or another cause. The investigation is being conducted using a "scientific crime investigation" approach, employing forensic DNA testing and other laboratory analyses. Firefighters extinguished the flames at 10:29 a.m. after two units responded.

Witness Kristianto described the scene, saying, "Warga langsung dobrak pintu rumah korban. Pas masuk, posisi korban (DS) sudah tergeletak berdarah di dapur dan bayinya di dalam kamar." The police have not yet released a definitive cause for the fire.
