Cirebon KUA theft of 177 marriage form blanks prompts national block

On 26 July 2026, thieves broke into the Kantor Urusan Agama (KUA) in the Kesambi sub‑district of Cirebon, West Java, and stole 177 blank marriage‑registration books. The breach was first noticed by a cleaning staff member when the side door was found open and the cabinet containing the forms was empty.

The Cirebon city office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) responded by cataloguing the missing serial numbers and submitting them to the provincial and national religious affairs offices for inclusion in a nationwide blocklist, ensuring any reproduced documents would be automatically deemed illegal. Kemenag officials, led by Yuto Nasikin, said that existing stock would sustain marriage registration services for one to two months while replacement forms are ordered, and they have proposed enhanced security measures such as bars, CCTV, and an additional gate. Police, headed by Iptu Suganda, have secured physical evidence but face limited camera footage and continue investigations.
