Cirion Technologies Begins Repair of Submarine Cable Off Venezuela After Earthquake

Cirion Technologies announced that repair work has started on its submarine fiber‑optic cable off the coast of Venezuela following the twin earthquakes on June 24. The specialized cable‑laying vessel Wave Sentinel arrived in Guaraní, Falcón, and deployed a remotely‑operated submarine robot to locate and assess the two broken ends of the cable. Technicians are now conducting integrity and connectivity tests to determine the steps needed for a physical splice and restoration of service.

The cable carries the bulk of international data traffic for Venezuela and the Caribbean, a critical link for cloud services, digital platforms and corporate communications. Cirion said the repair follows a phased contingency plan that includes network stabilization, capacity expansion and regulatory compliance. No timeline for full service restoration has been given, but the company aims to minimize disruption to regional connectivity.
