Cirque du Soleil holds rare talent auditions in Osaka
Cirque du Soleil held a rare circus act audition in Osaka, Japan, as part of the OSAKA COMEDY FESTIVAL 2026. The event featured a visiting casting team from the global entertainment group to conduct in-person practical selections, a rare occurrence for the company in Japan.
Out of 136 applicants, 26 to 27 performers passed the initial document screening to showcase skills in disciplines such as aerial arts, baton twirling, juggling, and gymnastics. Judges Charlie Barrow and Philippe Thibodeau praised the high level of talent, specifically noting the exceptional quality of Japanese baton twirlers and acrobats.
Among the participants was Rena Kashiwabara, a rookie announcer for Kansai Television. A former world-class baton twirler who placed second in a global competition during her student years, Kashiwabara received high praise from head casting director Charlie Barrow, who described her performance as “perfect” in terms of technique, presentation, and expression.
Successful candidates may receive offers to perform in resident or touring shows worldwide. The casting team will review video data from the auditions to determine suitable roles for upcoming productions.
