CISA promotes cybersecurity habits for Awareness Month
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is urging individuals to adopt stronger cybersecurity habits as more personal data, including medical and banking information, moves online. The guidance coincides with the 22nd anniversary of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, an observance first designated by Congress in 2004.
CISA recommends several key practices to protect confidential data, including the use of password managers and strong, unique passwords. The agency also advises users to report phishing attempts to email providers or IT departments, regularly update software to address security vulnerabilities, and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on all online accounts. MFA, which can include biometric verification such as fingerprint or facial scans, provides an additional layer of protection against unauthorized access.
