Cisalak Market vendors return to streets amid high rent and low sales

Street vendors at Cisalak Market in Depok are returning to sidewalks and roadsides despite government efforts to relocate them into official market stalls. Vendors cite high rental costs and low foot traffic in the relocated areas as primary reasons for their refusal to move. Official rates are set at Rp600,000 per square meter per year for kiosks and Rp360,000 per square meter per year for stalls (los).

In response, the Depok City Government, through the Department of Trade and Industry (Disdagin), is attempting to simplify the administrative process for vendors seeking legal placement. According to Disdagin Head Widyati Riyandani, the application process is designed to be straightforward. Prospective vendors can apply at the Cisalak Market UPT office to receive a Regional Retribution Determination Letter (SKRD), which allows for either full payment or installment plans to ease the financial burden on small-scale traders.
