Cisco Launches Open-Source AI Model Provenance Toolkit

Cisco has released a free, open‑source Model Provenance Kit that lets developers and enterprises verify the lineage of AI models. The toolkit examines model architecture, tokenizer structure and learned weights to determine whether two models share a common origin, acting like a DNA test for AI. It runs on standard CPUs, requires no specialized hardware and is available as a Python library and command‑line interface.

Alongside the kit, Cisco introduced the AI Supply Chain Provenance Explorer, which has fingerprinted roughly 900 publicly available models. The Explorer provides searchable metadata, licensing information and vulnerability scans, helping organizations inventory model estates, spot hidden derivations, licensing restrictions or potential model poisoning. Both tools are offered at no cost and do not require a Cisco account, aiming to improve transparency and security across the AI supply chain.
