AI adoption drives surge in tech spending and cybersecurity demands

The technology sector is experiencing a significant shift driven by artificial intelligence, impacting both corporate earnings and cybersecurity landscapes. Cisco Systems reported a surge in revenue, reaching $17.3 billion in its fiscal 2026 fourth quarter, with security revenue rising 14% to $2.2 billion. CEO Chuck Robbins noted that the rise of agentic AI is expanding the threat landscape, driving demand for security and observability solutions. Cisco’s AI-related equipment orders reached $4 billion in the quarter, and the company expects AI sales to nearly double to $7.5 billion in fiscal 2027.

Broadcom also showed strong AI-related performance, with AI semiconductor revenue hitting $10.08 billion, a 143% increase year-over-year. While Cisco focuses on a broad customer base, Broadcom is seeing deep integration with major cloud providers for customized processing units.

In Mexico, AI adoption is growing, with 48% of companies now using the technology. However, only 13% of Mexican firms use AI for transformative purposes rather than basic tasks. This rapid adoption is accompanied by increased cybersecurity spending, with projections suggesting Mexican companies will invest $1.48 billion in cybersecurity by 2026 to combat sophisticated, autonomous AI-powered attacks. These threats, such as the JADEPUFFER ransomware, can conduct reconnaissance and lateral movement with minimal human intervention.
