CISF seizes $119,900 in foreign currency at Kolkata airport

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) intercepted two passengers at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, seizing approximately $119,900 in US currency. The discovery occurred during routine security screening at the international terminal security hold area.

Security personnel identified suspicious items during an X-ray scan of hand luggage belonging to passengers traveling to Bangkok on Bhutan Airlines flight B3700. A physical inspection revealed that the cash, totaling roughly 1.14 crore Indian rupees, had been wrapped in newspapers and hidden within false compartments at the bottom of the bags.

Of the total amount, $74,900 was recovered from one passenger and $45,000 from the other. Following standard procedures, the CISF handed over the currency and the individuals to the Customs Department's Air Intelligence Unit (AIU). One passenger was presented before a district and sessions court for legal proceedings, while the second passenger was released after being issued a seizure receipt.
