Cisl leader Daniela Fumarola outlines stance on budget and strikes

Daniela Fumarola, General Secretary of the Cisl union, has expressed opposition to preventive general strikes regarding the upcoming budget law. In an interview, she emphasized that strikes should be a last resort rather than a ritualistic response to economic hardship caused by the cost of living.

Fumarola criticized the CGIL union's decision to protest a budget text that has not yet been released, noting that such conflict affects businesses not involved in the negotiations. Instead, Cisl plans to participate in the ‘Il Patto che unisce’ campaign with demonstrations scheduled in Genoa, Gioia Tauro, and Rome.

Regarding the €23.5 billion budget maneuver, Fumarola advocated for targeted support for workers, pensioners, and companies following representative contracts rather than broad distributions. Her specific proposals include stabilizing the 1 percent tax on performance bonuses, implementing a ‘Start tax’ for young new hires, and neutralizing ‘fiscal drag’ through automatic mechanisms. She also suggested extending contributions from banks and insurance companies to include superprofits from the energy and digital logistics sectors.
