Cisl leader warns lack of growth threatens Italian social cohesion
Daniela Fumarola, General Secretary of Cisl, has warned that a lack of economic growth in Italy risks fracturing social cohesion and fueling political extremism. Speaking at an event in Milan, she emphasized that failing to address citizens' needs could lead to social instability similar to recent trends observed in Germany.
To address wage requirements, Fumarola proposed two primary levers: decentralized bargaining that is tailored to the specific needs of different companies, and increased worker participation. She suggested that if employers and employees set shared objectives, productivity could increase and be redistributed into higher wages and potentially reduced working hours.
Additionally, Fumarola highlighted the 'Green Book,' a document containing 120 proposals aimed at fostering growth and social cohesion, which has been submitted to political institutions and social partners. She stressed the importance of focusing on Italy's future following the conclusion of the PNRR.
