Cisl supports Peretola Airport upgrade in Florence

Fabio Franchi, the general secretary of Cisl Firenze-Prato, has expressed strong support for the proposed upgrade of the Peretola Airport in Florence. He criticized the decades of delays, legal appeals, and postponements that have stalled the project, arguing that these delays have caused the region to lose economic resources and productive investments to other cities.

Franchi clarified that the goal is not to transform Vespucci Airport into an intercontinental hub, but to modernize it into a European-standard facility. He noted that the upgrade would provide greater landing certainty for flights, preventing diversions to cities like Genoa, Bologna, or Pisa.

Additionally, the union highlighted that the new runway orientation would improve safety and quality of life for residents in areas such as Brozzi, Quaracchi, Peretola, and Le Piagge by shifting low-altitude flights over uninhabited zones. The debate has been reignited following a recent ruling by the TAR (Regional Administrative Court).
