CISO burnout and turnover rates drive focus on security leadership wellbeing
Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) are facing unprecedented levels of stress and turnover. Industry data indicates that the average tenure for a CISO is between 18 and 26 months, which is shorter than any other C-suite position. High levels of dissatisfaction are reported, with studies suggesting 75 percent of security chiefs are interested in changing jobs.
Contributing factors to this burnout include increased workload, with 99 percent of CISOs working extra hours weekly, and heightened personal legal liability regarding breach reporting. This instability can negatively impact organizational risk posture and security program continuity.
In response to the demanding nature of the role, iTnews has announced an Executive Retreat – Security Leaders Edition in Victoria, Australia. Scheduled for late November, the event aims to provide senior technology and security executives with a space for leadership discussion, peer networking, and strategies for managing executive wellbeing and avoiding burnout.
