Cities: Skylines 2 to receive major update for AI and logic
Iceflake Studios, a developer under Paradox Interactive, is preparing a major update for the strategy game Cities: Skylines 2 aimed at overhauling citizen behavior, utility algorithms, and graphics.
Key mechanical changes include a rework of emergency and utility vehicle logic. For instance, garbage trucks will now reserve capacity for specific calls and skip minor collections to ensure they reach intended destinations without filling up prematurely. This change is intended to reduce waste buildup and increase citizen happiness.
The update also addresses residential demand by adjusting algorithms to account for the ratio of city scale to vacant apartments, preventing illogical demand drops in large cities. Economic mechanics will be refined by prioritizing residents’ regular income over total capital when assessing purchasing power, and commercial rentals will be allocated based on district economic needs to ensure business diversity. Visual upgrades are also expected as part of the patch.
