Citigroup explores capital mobilization for Vietnam energy sector
Citigroup senior executive Ernesto Torres Cantú met with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Văn Thắng to discuss supporting Vietnam’s economic development goals. The group is specifically researching solutions to mobilize capital for the country’s energy sector.
Beyond energy, Citigroup intends to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Finance regarding government bond issuances and arranging capital for key national infrastructure projects through export credit agencies (ECAs) and structured financial solutions. The group also offered to advise on debt portfolio optimization and domestic capital market development.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Văn Thắng emphasized the government's goal of achieving an average annual GDP growth rate of 10% or more during the 2026–2030 period. To reach this target, Vietnam aims to maximize social resources, including capital from international financial institutions.
