Citric acid provides an effective method for limescale removal

Citric acid serves as an effective and inexpensive method for removing limescale from household appliances and fixtures without the need for heavy scrubbing or harsh chemicals.

For kettles, the process involves boiling water, adding 1-2 tablespoons of citric acid, and letting it sit for 15-20 minutes. This helps dissolve mineral deposits from calcium and magnesium found in tap water, particularly around the spout. Unlike vinegar, citric acid is odorless.

For faucets and sensitive surfaces, a solution of approximately 10 grams of citric acid in 200 ml of lukewarm water can be used. Soaking a paper towel in the solution and wrapping it around the fixture for a few minutes allows the scale to soften, making it easy to wipe away with a soft sponge. This method prevents scratches on chrome or other delicate finishes that can occur when using abrasive tools.
