Citroen 2CV electric revival to use Leapmotor technology
Citroen has unveiled the 2CV Concept, a modern, electric interpretation of its historic icon, intended to expand the brand's portfolio by 2028. The concept emphasizes simplicity, accessibility, and compact design to make electric mobility more approachable.
However, reports indicate that the upcoming production version of the electric Citroen 2CV will be developed in close collaboration with the Chinese company Leapmotor. Stellantis Chief Technology Officer Ned Curic confirmed that these new small electric vehicles will be built on a platform created alongside Leapmotor.
Technical cooperation between European and Chinese engineers is currently taking place at the Mirafiori research and development center in Turin, Italy. The production models, which are expected to hit the market around 2028 with a target price of approximately 15,000 euros, will be manufactured at the Stellantis plant in Pomigliano, Italy. This partnership aims to accelerate development timelines, allowing new electric models from brands like Citroen, Opel, or Fiat to reach the market within two years.
