Citroën Berlingo six‑wheel concept unveiled at 1996 Paris Motor Show

In the late 1990s Citroën sought a successor to its long‑running C15 utility vehicle. The company developed a new Berlingo based on the PSA ZX platform, extending the chassis by 15 cm, adding independent suspension on both axles and a diesel engine. The Berlingo was presented at the 1996 Paris Motor Show, alongside several styling concepts named “Plage”, “Grand Large” and “Bulle”.

Designer Franco Sbarro and his students created a special ten‑seat, six‑wheel version of the Berlingo, featuring a 4×6 drivetrain and an extended rear cabin with two rows of four seats. Inspired by the historic 1931‑32 Croisière Jaune expedition, the vehicle also includes a trailer equipped with tools and sand‑removal plates.
