Citroën celebrates 40 years of the BX GTi sport sedan

Citroën is marking the 40th anniversary of the BX GTi, a sport sedan originally introduced in July 1986. Designed by Carl Olsen, the model was intended to combine high-level performance with the comfort and versatility expected of a family car, replacing the BX 19 GT and BX Sport.

The BX GTi featured several design updates, including wider fenders, body-colored bumpers, and a rear spoiler. Under the hood, it utilized a 4-cylinder, 8-valve engine with electronic fuel injection, producing 125 hp and 175 Nm of torque. This allowed the vehicle, which weighed approximately 1,025 kg, to reach speeds near 200 km/h.

While the model faced stiff competition from established icons like the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Lancia Delta HF 4WD, it remains a notable example of the brand's innovative spirit and its attempt to balance sporting credentials with daily usability.
