Citroën plans global production of electric 2CV EV

Citroën has unveiled a compact electric concept based on the legendary 2CV at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. The new model, a lightweight hatchback measuring 3.76 meters, is designed to offer affordable electric mobility with an estimated European starting price of approximately €15,000.

Stellantis is evaluating India as a strategic hub for the global production and export of the 2CV EV, with a planned launch by 2028. This aligns with a broader commitment from Stellantis to invest ₹4,000 crore in the Indian market over the next three years. The company aims to increase production at its Tiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu from 16,000 units this year to over 43,000 by 2028.

In Germany, Citroën officials expressed optimism that the new 2CV could help the brand reach a 3% market share. The strategy focuses on attracting private customers rather than rental fleets to protect residual values. The vehicle is expected to feature modern amenities such as LED headlights and advanced comfort seating while maintaining a design reminiscent of the original icon.
