Citrus growers in Argentina and Mexico step up HLB disease prevention

The municipality of Concordia in Argentina renewed a cooperation agreement with the local citrus growers' association to strengthen monitoring, prevention and mitigation of Huanglongbing (HLB), also known as Greening. The pact, signed by Mayor Francisco Azcué and Association President Orlando Malvasio, will continue permanent surveillance of orchards in the department, coordinated with the national agricultural health service (SENASA).

In Mexico, the State Plant Health Committee in Campeche conducted practical training for producers in 12 citrus orchards across regions such as Camino Real, Calakmul and Carmen. Technicians emphasized early detection of the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri), the vector of HLB, and the cotton aphid that spreads tristeza virus, aiming to reduce crop losses through timely control measures.
