Citrus producers in Argentina and Spain confront low prices and harvest declines

In Entre Ríos, Argentina, citrus growers are warning that the upcoming 2027 orange campaign is at risk because farmgate prices have fallen to 40‑50 Argentine pesos per kilogram, demand is down to about 60% of normal levels, and logistics costs are rising. Sector leader Marcos Dal Mazo said the revenue barely covers daily expenses, jeopardising investment and the livelihoods of more than 20,000 workers employed by the regional citrus industry.

In Spain’s Murcia region, the agricultural union ASAJA forecasts a roughly 30% drop in the lemon Fino harvest for the 2026/27 season. The projection depends on pest pressure, weather, water availability and fruit quality. The union notes that recent frost in Turkey may reduce Turkish lemon competition, while imports from South Africa and Argentina could influence European supply and prices.
