City Angels to celebrate 32 years of volunteerism in Milan

The City Angels volunteer organization will celebrate its 32nd anniversary on Sunday, October 18, at the Società Umanitaria in Milan. Founded in 1994 by Mario Furlan, the group, often referred to as the ‘blue berets,’ currently operates in 20 Italian cities and Lugano, Switzerland.

The organization consists of over 600 volunteers, with more than half being women and approximately one-quarter being immigrants. The volunteer demographic has an average age of 39, ranging from 18 to 79 years old.

The anniversary event, held from 10:00 to 17:00, will feature institutional greetings from Milan Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo and Lombardy Vice President Marco Alparone. The program includes a speech by founder Mario Furlan, musical performances by the band Alt@Moda, and reports from section coordinators regarding the past year's activities. The day will conclude with an awards ceremony recognizing volunteers for their excellence in assisting the homeless, supporting housing and employment searches, and promoting urban safety.
