Nigeria political landscape shifts ahead of 2027 elections

Political activity in Nigeria is intensifying ahead of the 2027 general elections, characterized by both mobilization efforts for President Bola Tinubu and significant criticism of his administration.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, has projected that the President will secure a wider margin of victory in 2027 than in 2023. Bwala attributed this confidence to growing support among governors who have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Meanwhile, the Eko 57 support group has begun mobilizing grassroots support for Tinubu and APC candidates in Lagos State.

However, the administration faces sharp criticism. Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, a former military officer, described Tinubu’s performance as a ‘total disaster,’ citing a disconnect between the government and the public. Additionally, analyst Kolawole Johnson warned that a fragmented opposition could inadvertently strengthen Tinubu’s re-election bid unless opposition parties form a unified alliance.

In other developments, a bus branded with the City Boy Movement logo, a group associated with Tinubu, was involved in a crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway; the condition of the occupants remains unconfirmed. Furthermore, Abdullahi Ganduje, former APC National Chairman, recently met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja amid ongoing political maneuvering.
