City of Charleston Launches First Resident Academy, Applications Open
The City of Charleston announced that applications are now being accepted for its inaugural Resident Academy, a four‑session, in‑person program designed to give residents a behind‑the‑scenes view of municipal operations. Each session will focus on a different city department and include presentations, facility tours, demonstrations and direct interaction with city staff and leadership.
The sessions are scheduled for August 20, September 1, September 23 and October 6, 2026, all on the Charleston peninsula. Seats are limited; priority will be given to applicants who can attend all four meetings. The application deadline is August 8, 2026. Neighborhood Services Manager Becca Hopkins said the Academy aims to improve transparency and empower residents to engage more effectively with city government.
