City of London approves process to revoke Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's honorary title
The City of London Corporation has approved a new legal process that allows for the removal of the Freedom of the City of London title from individuals. This measure follows a legal review which determined that no lawful mechanism previously existed to revoke this honorary distinction.
The Corporation announced that the new procedure will be applied as a “matter of urgency” regarding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The former prince, who was previously stripped of his royal titles and dukedom by the King, faces the potential loss of this ceremonial honor following his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Policy chairman Chris Hayward stated that the new rules ensure future decisions are made in a fair, transparent, and lawful manner, providing appropriate safeguards for all parties. Under the new arrangements, affected individuals will be informed and permitted to submit written representations before a final decision is reached.
