City of London converts official Rolls-Royce limousine to electric power

The City of London Corporation has converted its official 1973 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI limousine into an electric vehicle. Commissioned by Alderwoman Dame Susan Langley, the project is part of a broader initiative to achieve net-zero carbon emissions for the Corporation’s operations by 2027.

The conversion was performed by Oxfordshire-based Electrogenic. The re-engineering process was designed to be fully reversible, as no part of the original bodywork was cut, drilled, or welded. The vehicle now features a 120kW electric motor and a 62kWh battery pack located where the original V8 engine once sat, providing a real-world range of between 100 and 120 miles.

The Rolls-Royce includes a ‘Ceremonial’ driving mode, which reduces motor torque and relaxes throttle response to facilitate slow, graceful movement during civic processions. The vehicle is compatible with DC fast-charging up to 100kW and can accommodate a doubled battery capacity in the future if increased range is required.
