City of Parramatta announces awards and celebrates tourism win

The City of Parramatta has announced that nominations are open for the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards. The program seeks to recognize individuals and community groups for their contributions to volunteering, leadership, creativity, environmental action, and community service. Lord Mayor Cameron MacLean stated the awards aim to shine a spotlight on local heroes who make the community stronger. Nominations close at 5pm on Friday, October 30, and recipients will be announced in January.

Additionally, Parramatta’s New Year’s Eve celebration has won a gold award in the Best Events Campaign – Councils category at the Western Sydney Tourism Awards. The 2025 event at Parramatta Park attracted over 70,000 attendees and generated an estimated $13.4 million in local spending. This marks the council’s third consecutive win at the regional tourism awards, highlighting the city's growing role as a destination for major festivals and nightlife.
