CityUHK and Cambridge launch smart manufacturing research centre

The City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and the University of Cambridge have launched the Centre for Advanced and Smart Manufacturing (CASM) to advance Industry 5.0 research. Located at the Hong Kong Science Park, the centre is part of the Hong Kong Government’s InnoHK initiative.

Co-led by Professor Lu Jian of CityUHK and Professor Colm Durkan of the University of Cambridge, CASM will focus on four primary application areas: next-generation refrigeration, thermal management for data centres, green manufacturing for new energy vehicles, and innovative materials for consumer electronics. The research will utilize additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, as a core technology platform to integrate materials design, digital engineering, and manufacturing processes. The initiative aims to support Hong Kong’s reindustrialization and its role in the global industrial value chain.
