CityWest to build Highway 37 fibre route for regional redundancy

CityWest has announced the Northern Resiliency project, which involves constructing a new fibre optic route along Highway 37 to improve telecommunications redundancy in Northern British Columbia. The initiative follows several major service failures in the region this summer caused by wildfires and copper cable theft.

The new infrastructure will be installed underground to reduce exposure to wildfires, vehicle collisions, wildlife, and theft. This geographically diverse path will allow network traffic to be redirected if primary routes are disrupted. Additionally, equipment sites along the route will feature redundant power systems to ensure continued operation during extended power outages.
