Ciudad del Carmen worker denounces alleged labor abuse at Chinese store

A young woman, identified as Ivana Guadalupe, has publicly denounced alleged labor exploitation, harassment, and mistreatment at the Baima store, a Chinese products establishment located in Plaza Palmira, Ciudad del Carmen.

According to the complainant, her six-month tenure was marked by verbal abuse from the owner, who allegedly accused her of being a “thief,” affecting her dignity. She further claimed that working conditions were deplorable due to high temperatures and a lack of air conditioning, and that her working hours exceeded legal limits. She also alleged that employees lacked social security.

The conflict escalated on Tuesday, August 18, when the worker was informed her contract had ended. She reported being offered only 500 pesos, a sum she deemed insufficient and illegal for the termination of her employment. During a two-hour standoff, she claimed she was pressured to sign a document stating she was resigning voluntarily, which she refused to sign and subsequently tore up. The incident drew family members to the location to support her.
