Ciudad del Este woman dies in house collapse caused by heavy rains
Ana María Silvero, 58, died after her precarious home collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the Pablo Rojas neighborhood of Ciudad del Este, Alto Paraná. The intense precipitation is attributed to the El Niño climate phenomenon.
Following the incident, the victim's daughter has faced financial hardship in covering funeral costs. While the local government reportedly covered the cost of the casket, the family still requires 500,000 Guaraníes for the remaining services. Local residents have organized a solidarity collection to assist the family, as they consider holding the wake on the street if funds are not raised in time. The tragedy highlights the vulnerability of families living in high-risk, substandard housing.
