Ciudad Juárez and El Paso host binational art exhibitions
Artistic exhibitions are bridging the border between Ciudad Juárez and El Paso through the Bienal Fronteriza 2026 and the SUTURA binational art encounter. These initiatives use creative expression to explore identity, territory, and the political and symbolic boundaries between Mexico and the United States.
The exhibition ‘El corrido también es parte del paisaje’ at the Museo de Arte de Ciudad Juárez features works from 28 artists. It utilizes the ‘corrido’ musical tradition as a lens to examine migration, social issues, and cross-border relations. This project is linked to SUTURA, a binational event scheduled for November 18–22 that will host exhibitions, music, and community activities in both Ciudad Juárez and El Paso.
Simultaneously, the Bienal Fronteriza 2026, themed ‘Imaginar la frontera’, is being hosted by both the Museo de Arte de Ciudad Juárez and the El Paso Museum of Art. The biennial includes artists and collectives from various cities, including Las Cruces, Albuquerque, Tucson, Santa Fe, Chihuahua, Aldama, and Bisbee. The works aim to represent the border not merely as a geographic division, but as a shared cultural and affective space shaped by the experiences of those living within the region.
