Ciudad Juárez authorities arrest couple for child torture

In Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, authorities have arrested a couple, Rosa Alejandra Q. R. and Diego Francisco V. M., for the alleged torture of an 8-year-old child. The suspects, the child's father and stepmother, reportedly used extreme physical violence, including placing the child's hands on a hot griddle, as punishment for failing to complete household chores. The minor is currently receiving specialized care and institutional protection.

In a separate legal development in the same region, the Public Ministry has withdrawn three witnesses and a DVD from the ninth oral trial against Naomi Yamilé R. P., who faces charges of aggravated rape and child abuse. The withdrawn evidence included representatives from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). The trial has concluded the evidentiary phase, with closing arguments and a final verdict scheduled for Tuesday, October 13.
