Ciudad Juárez authorities bury 117 unidentified bodies

Forensic authorities in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, have carried out the burial of 117 unidentified or unclaimed bodies. This brings the total number of individuals receiving this fate to approximately 560 during the current state administration.

The remains belong to individuals who died between 2019 and 2025. While the bodies are being moved to individualized graves, officials stated the burial is a temporary measure. The ultimate goal remains the identification of the deceased and returning them to their families.

Héctor Manuel Jacob Hernández, a forensic coordinator for the Northern Zone, explained that burials are authorized only after necessary studies are conducted to preserve information for future identification. The decision to proceed with inhumation was driven by public health concerns and the need to prevent overcrowding in forensic facilities. The high number of unidentified remains is partly attributed to the city's large floating population, which includes migrants and citizens from other Mexican states.
