Ciudad Juárez City Council approves environmental and cultural measures

The Ciudad Juárez City Council has approved several measures regarding economic development, culture, and environmental protection. Key decisions include a ten-year extension for a 3 percent extraordinary tax on business properties to fund the continued construction of the Centro de Exposiciones y Convenciones (CEC).

In a cultural move, the council unanimously voted to posthumously award the ‘Las Llaves de la Ciudad’ to Alberto Aguilera Valadez, known as Juan Gabriel, in recognition of his artistic and cultural legacy. The ceremony is scheduled for August 28.

To address environmental concerns arising from population growth, the council approved the reactivation of the Ecological Agents program. Starting in September, four inspectors will be dedicated to responding to citizen reports regarding illegal waste dumping, trash burning, air and water pollution, and noise complaints. This follows a recent investigation into a metal recycling business in the Satélite neighborhood that was fined approximately 650,000 pesos for lacking valid civil protection and ecology certifications following a fire.
