Ciudad Juárez family seeks funds for urgent liver transplant

The family of Antonio de Jesús Nevárez Álvarez, a 59-year-old resident of Ciudad Juárez, is launching a fundraising campaign to cover the costs of an urgent liver transplant. Following a diagnosis of stage four colon cancer in September 2024, Nevárez underwent surgery and 34 chemotherapy sessions. While doctors removed the colon tumor, they discovered additional tumors on his liver that cannot be surgically extracted due to their proximity to the vena cava.

The family aims to raise 850,000 pesos to cover medical fees, hospitalization, and post-operative care. A transplant is scheduled for November 24, with Nevárez’s son, Omar Nevárez, identified as the potential donor.

To support the cause, the family is organizing a kermés (fundraising fair) at the Oratorio Lupita, located at the intersection of Oaxaca Street and Boulevard Zaragoza, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with the mounting medical expenses.
