Ciudad Juárez hosts indigenous Wasarówa race and Mariachi Festival

The municipal government of Ciudad Juárez organized the Wasarówa foot race on Saturday, 8 August. The 3‑km and 5‑km race began at the Museum of Archaeology and History of El Chamizal and finished at the Municipal Arts Center. Open to members of local indigenous communities—including Rarámuri, Mixteca, Otomí and Mazahua—as well as the general public and people with disabilities, the event offered the first 200 registrants a runner’s kit with a shirt and commemorative medal.

The following day, Sunday, 9 August, the city held the Second Festival of Mariachi at the Municipal Civic Auditorium. The free event featured more than 100 musicians from local schools and municipal groups, including the Mariachi Apaches, Mariachi Juvenil de Juárez, and Mariachi Nuevo Sonido from the state capital. The festival highlighted the UNESCO‑designated cultural heritage of mariachi music and concluded with a performance by the Mahuatzi dance group.
