Ciudad Juárez municipal demolition of two abandoned farms
Municipal staff in Ciudad Juárez started demolishing two abandoned farms located on Ignacio Mejía street at the intersection with Argentina as part of an urban re‑ordering operation. The action was approved in a joint work table that included the Urban Development and Civil Protection departments. Director of the municipal cleaning agency, Gibran Solís Kanahan, said the properties had been notified earlier because of severe structural damage – collapsed roofs, fallen walls – and had been used by people experiencing homelessness and for illicit activities, with fire incidents reported.
The demolition began on Friday and is slated to finish by the following Tuesday. During the operation, workers found a room being prepared for habitation despite a Civil Protection warning about collapse risk; they spoke with the occupant and warned of the danger. Officials urged residents to verify structural safety before occupying or using such buildings and called on owners to keep their properties clean and fenced to avoid safety and public‑health problems.
