Ciudad Juárez officials develop protocols after Plenitud crematory scandal
Authorities in Ciudad Juárez are working to establish new protocols following the Plenitud crematory scandal, where 386 corpses were discovered that had not undergone the cremation process as intended.
Carlos Ortiz Villegas, representing the Northern Zone governorship, met with the State Commission for Protection Against Sanitary Risks (Coespris), the State Prosecutor's Office (FGE), and the health sector to harmonize criteria for funeral services, including body transfers and burials. The goal is to create inter-institutional regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
Regarding the investigation, an arrest warrant remains active for the owner of the crematory. Although the owner was previously released via an injunction, authorities are pursuing an international red notice to locate and apprehend him. Most identified remains have already been returned to their families.
