Ciudad Juárez prison sweep seizes 13 contraband items
An extraordinary inspection was carried out at the CERESO Estatal No. 3 prison in Ciudad Juárez, involving 321 state and federal security personnel. The operation examined Area 1 and the intake module, checking 814 inmates and 99 housing units under the oversight of the State Human Rights Commission.
Authorities seized 13 prohibited items – 11 knives and two metal rods – and also confiscated unauthorized clothing, board games and jewelry, which will be destroyed. Secretary of Public Security Gilberto Loya Chávez said the sweep is part of a permanent strategy to improve security and governance in the state’s penitentiaries. He highlighted the prison’s transformation over the past three and a half years from a crisis situation to a recognized model, crediting commanders Fernández Acosta, Soto and Díaz for their roles.
The seized items will be destroyed according to established protocols, and similar inspections are planned for other state prisons.
