Ciudad Juárez reports 39 female murders in 2026

Ciudad Juárez has recorded 39 female murders so far in 2026, according to data from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE). The recent figures include two murders in September, one of which involved a woman found dismembered in the southeastern part of the city.

In addition to the killings, recent incidents include two attempted femicides, one involving a young girl. In another case, a 27-year-old woman, Miriam N. C., was attacked with a knife by her partner on September 13. Court proceedings revealed that the woman had previously survived an attempted strangulation by the same individual five months prior.

Criminal lawyer Érika Espinoza, a specialist in human rights and gender perspective, emphasized that extreme violence is often preceded by warning signs such as threats, extreme jealousy, control, isolation, and humiliation. She urged society to stop romanticizing jealousy and to stop treating domestic violence as a private matter, noting that neighbors and family members can play a role in intervention.
